More about Dr. Leah Lagos

Dr. Lagos maintains that the heart is the pathway to emotional control. For more than fifteen years, she has consulted, taught, conducted research, lectured, and developed programs to help individuals of all ages reduce their anxiety and improve performance through biofeedback. She is the principle author of “Heart Rate Variability Biofeedback: A Strategy to Manage Competitive Anxiety,” which was published in Biofeedback magazine by the Association of Applied and Physiology and Biofeedback (AAPB). Dr. Lagos is also the lead author of “Virtual Reality Assisted Heart Rate Variability Biofeedback: A Strategy to Enhance Golf Performance,” which was published in AAPB’s Biofeedback magazine.

Unique to the field of sport psychology, Dr. Lagos has worked with amateur and professional golfers of all ages, and has conducted risk assessments for draft prospects of the Chicago Bears and the New York Giants at the NFL Combine, as part of Professional Sport Consultants, Inc. She has also consulted with professional basketball players and their families on issues related to career development for the National Basketball Association (NBA).

Dr. Leah Lagos has worked with collegiate athletic teams across the United States, including competitors in track, rowing, basketball, football, and golf. She has also helped to cultivate and support substance abuse prevention programs with more than 25 teams at Rutgers University and developed a disordered eating prevention team to coordinate care of student-athletes at the University of Miami.

Dr. Lagos works with distinguished performers in the business and financial world to overcome performance anxiety, reduce stress, manage mood, improve energy, build confidence, and strengthen resilience. She is a Licensed Psychologist in the States of New York and New Jersey and is Board Certified in Biofeedback. Dr. Lagos consults individuals as well as senior partners and head managers of several organizations. She is an active member of the American Psychological Association, the Association for Applied Sport Psychology, the Association of Applied Psychophysiology & Biofeedback, as well as the Biofeedback Foundation of Europe. Dr. Lagos also serves as Co-Chair of the Optimal Performance Section and an Executive Board Member of the Association for Applied Physiology and Biofeedback and is a guest editor for Biofeedback magazine.

These foods include: joy, spirituality, creativity, finances, career, education, health, physical activity, home cooking, home environment, relationships, and social life. As we navigate through our health journey and coach our clients and patients through their own individualized processes, we may notice these concepts ebb and flow, which is not only normal, but healthy!

In this episode we hone in on some of the more difficult to grasp concepts: joy, creativity, and home environment and provide examples and methods of ways to activate these practices into our everyday lives. Life transitions can be difficult, stressful, and even overwhelming. In my experience, none were more trying than my transition from civilian to soldier back to civilian again. And I am not the only one. Military transition continues to be one of the biggest hardships service members go through - and many have been in combat!

There is good news though, there are in fact people and services we can utilize to help guide us through these transitions, people who have done it themselves and have your best interest at heart. As a former Staff Sergeant in the United Sates Army, active duty 2003-2009, I hear my fellow soldiers struggling the same way now, years later, that I did over ten years ago. This must stop.

We have the responsibility to connect with them and keep moving forward in life and on to the next mission.

When they met in college, they had a lot on their plates. Kent trained with the Japanese Olympic Judo team, painted as a muralist for the city of Los Angeles, and competed internationally in Muay Thai. EFR 361: The Light Diet - How Light Affects Humans at the Cellular Level with Matt Maruca

Sit back and buckle up because this episode is going to blow your mind! Matt Maruca, founder of The Light Diet and Ra Optics, spent years of his early childhood and adulthood chasing wellness only to be stuck spinning his wheels. So he set out to learn how to improve his health at the cellular level in hopes to rebuild his life from the inside out.

Matt learned that all modern chronic diseases, including cancer, Alzheimer’s, obesity, diabetes, autism, autoimmune diseases, and even depression are mitochondrial diseases, meaning that certain tissues’ mitochondria are severely damaged in those diseases, and that his issues were mitochondrial, too.

 He learned that mitochondria are “electromagnetic” in nature, meaning that how they process our food and make energy is controlled by light.  This explained why diet alone was not enough to actually cure his symptoms. It further clarified to me how so many people struggle with diet and exercise as their only strategies for health, and why focusing on diet, exercise, and supplements alone to improve health is like focusing only on the gas when trying to fix a car with a broken engine. He earned that more energetic light frequencies, especially blue light, exert the strongest effect on our body clock, and the less energetic frequencies such as red light have a comparatively minimal effect. He learned that getting UV light from the sun through our eye is critical to creating melatonin, before it can even be secreted in the hours after the sun sets. So, he began going outside in sunlight during the day to make melatonin, and wearing blue light blocking safety goggles at night to allow his melatonin to be secreted and his not looked back since!
