Ryan Fischer has been through it all; from living in his car and stealing food to get by to becoming a CrossFit athlete and successful fitness entrepreneur. Danielle on Functional Mushrooms

  • Some people are still not familiar with functional mushrooms and their advantages. However, it is one of the most valuable aspects of natural medicine. 

  • She felt like not much credit and research is given to mushrooms despite their use in traditional Chinese medicine.

Adaptogens

  • In natural medicine, categories are based on their action or function. Functional mushrooms belong to the category of adaptogens. 

  • Nervines support the nervous system for functions like deep sleep or sedation. Carminatives, on the other hand, support digestive functions.

The Effects are Different for Everybody

Listen to Your Body

  • Following the natural approach of taking superfoods like mushrooms allows you to listen more to your body.

  • No one knows your body better than you.

  • Tuning in to your body is similar to how fungi connect things in their environment. 

  • Fungi are connectors. They are connecting over 90% of plants on Earth with the mycelium web under the soil. 

  • Fungi connect life and death as the grand decomposers of the world.

Functional Mushrooms and Their Applications

  • There are many applications of functional mushrooms. Four Sigmatic developed products based on these superfoods to make them easier to ingest.

  • They are usually called "think mushrooms."

  • People drink coffee because they need caffeine to keep them going. However, drinking coffee can build up your tolerance.

  • Taking your coffee with lion's mane, on the other hand, could still get you the caffeine you need but with additional medicinal benefits from the mushroom. 

  • Although adaptogens have different effects for everyone, they all share the same function of supporting our stress response.

Three Main Parts of the Mushroom 

  • Mycelium is the underground root system.

  • The fruiting body is the part above ground. 

  • The spores are essentially the mushroom seeds.

  • All parts of the mushroom are used for medicinal purposes.

  • Among them, the full fruiting body is the most used for its medicinal benefits. 

Reishi 

  • Reishi is known as the “queen of mushrooms.” It has been used the longest and has the oldest history, primarily in traditional Chinese medicine.

  • It is responsible for over 500 different functions, making it incredibly diverse.

  • Reishi is a "chill mushroom," which makes you feel relaxed and supports your nervous system,

  • It is best taken after a long day of work and whenever you want to be stress-free. 

Shiitake 

  • Aside from being an ingredient in many dishes, shiitake can also be used in drinks and other refreshments.
